Abstract

The aim of this study is to explore the extent and type of portrayal of the mentally ill in the popular prime-time crime show, Crime Patrol India. The scholars found during their literature survey that mental health and the mentally ill have been consistently portrayed in a negative fashion across time and genres on television. It was also discovered that there is no significant data produced on the portrayal of mental illness in Indian crime dramas. This paper seeks to study, understand and analyse the extent and portrayal of the mentally ill in an Indian television show, Crime Patrol, as well as the effect of these images on the audience’s perception of the mentally ill.
